All on Four implantology
The development of new implantology techniques allows us to offer patients optimal solutions, even in complex clinical pictures, capable of significantly improving their quality of life.
An example of these new techniques is all on four implantology, developed by Dr. Paulo Malo and the dental implant manufacturer Nobel Biocare. Thanks to them it is possible to restore a smile even to patients with completely edentulous arch, ensuring stability and durability over time.
What does the all on four system consist of
Let's see more specifically what the all on four system with immediate load consists of. As it can be understood from the name, the all on four or all on six implant consists of only four implants (six in the case of the all on six < / em>), two of which are placed at the beginning and at the end with an inclination of more than 30 degrees, unlike the classical methods in which they are placed parallel. Thanks to this inclination, areas such as the maxillary sinuses and mental foramina, rich in nerves and blood vessels, are avoided, the impairment of which can lead to bleeding and neurosensory disorders. Furthermore, with the use of this type of technique it is possible to avoid a bone graft operation, normally required before inserting an implant, in patients with a bone condition that cannot guarantee excellent stability, because it better the bone quantities already present.
Therefore this type of implant is recommended for all patients with:
- Reduced bone quantity - should undergo further grafting in the case of traditional implant
- Completely edentulous arch
- Irregularly compromised teeth
- Health problems or elderly patients, allowing the use of fewer implants
Advantages and disadvantages of the all on four system
The all on four implant made it possible to rehabilitate the dentition in patients who were previously advised against any other type of prosthesis other than the mobile one, i.e. the classic denture. Therefore, this new technique has made it possible to make the rehabilitation of patients much more comfortable, providing an alternative solution to mobile prostheses which, unfortunately, make operations such as chewing and correct speech difficult. Therefore, the advantages of the all on four system are numerous:
- Minimally invasive operation
- Natural look
- Durability over time
- Minimal post-operative discomfort
- Time reduced to a single session
- Lower cost than traditional implants (fewer implants)
Therefore the advantages of the all on four implant are various considering, moreover, the wide application even in patients with complicated anamnesis, as illustrated in the previous paragraph, and the safety of the operation thanks to the computer assisted (guided surgery). However, this requires that the operation be carried out in highly qualified centers equipped with the latest technologies such as our Bracchetti Dental Clinic in Milan, where you will only find the latest generation equipment and up-to-date trained specialists.
But what disadvantages does or can a system of this type entail?
- Possible accumulation of food under the prosthesis
- Color of the reproduced gingiva not always the same as the natural one
- If the implant fails, the prosthesis must be replaced
- Possible bone resorption of the posterior areas of the mandible and maxilla (the areas not stabilized by the implants)
So, even with the all on four system, it is important first of all to rely on a specialist who, after a careful analysis of your condition and your needs, will recommend the best solution for you!
