Conservative dentistry
Conservative dentistry mainly deals with the treatment of dental caries. Its purpose, as the name suggests, is to maintain (preserve) the teeth affected by caries by first eliminating the decayed tissue and then restoring shape, function and also the original aesthetics of the dental elements.
It is divided into direct and indirect conservative dentistry.
Direct conservative surgery includes all those methods that the dentist uses directly, without the aid of prosthetic products built by the dental technician, to treat decayed teeth or to restore teeth that have shape or color defects deriving from different causes. / p>
Indirect conservative dentistry is used where the lack of dental tissue is very important. This is important in patients who have particularly strong and traumatic chewing and where the aesthetic defects to be corrected are large and numerous. It is therefore recommended to perform restorations prepared in the laboratory such as laboratory-processed composites or dental ceramics.
The following treatments are performed in the practice: composite fillings anterior teeth; composite fillings posterior teeth; composite reconstructions of fractured teeth; resin splinting (method of stabilizing the dental position, applied at the end of an orthodontic treatment); and inlays in ceramic, composite, or gold .
